Eight in 10 servicemen retiring from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) take only six months on average to land a new job.

This is according to the Defence Ministry (Mindef), which released the statistics for the first time and has a career transition centre to help outgoing employees.

Every year, about 100 to 200 regulars - in their mid- to late 40s - retire from the SAF. Among them, six in 10 get help from Mindef's Career Transition Resource Centre (CTRC).

Set up in 2009, the centre vets resumes, organises networking sessions and career workshops and offers one-on-one career counselling, among other services.

NEED TO ADAPT

'You cannot be pulling rank here and ordering people around. You have to be independent, learn to do everything yourself and work as a team.'

Former army logistics executive Jaya Sanger, who now works for Singapore Customs

'It's still about having to appeal to people's logic and hearts to convince them to get the job done.'

Former military aircraft engineer Gopakumar Nair, who now works for A*Star, on the similarity between a military job and a civilian one

1. aiyoh!
2. just another half-pail-filled report.
3. what are the jobs offered? permanent, temporary or term-contract or what?
4. how about the salary range offered?
5. nothing absolute in such load of crap!

They sent many of these useless fucks to work in MOE.
Many of them as operations manager, principals etc.

I don’t think we can trust those "Public Announcement" issue by the ministry or even the newspaper. Job opportunities depend very much on the Job Market at that time.....
In an event of a down turn, peoples can’t land a job even some are holding MBA….. So bottom line, don’t just look at things on face value……

I am an ex-saf regular in the Navy who I ROD in 1996.... During that time, landing a job is not easy but as times goes by landing job is more easy...
in the nut shell, dont totally trust what the "Press Release" stated.

it is interesting to read that most of the venues absorbing such talents are GLCs / stat boards...well, they are used to working in a hierarchical structure anyways.

WTF? need 6 months still dare report 'only' 6 months?

6 months is a very short time is it?

Should have given them a lump sum at end of contract and maybe some will do their own biz, rather than placing them in glcs to screw up the biz.
