After four years of pocketing nearly S$15,000 from a renovation company, the long arm of the law finally caught up with former policeman, Abdul Samat Kaman.
The ex-cop’s luck ran out when he was identified during a police check in a housing estate in central Singapore last January.
Abdul Samat, 57, pleaded guilty to committing criminal breach of trust (CBT) on Wednesday and was sentenced to three months in jail.
According to The Straits Times, Abdul Samat was working as a freelance sales representative with Hamid & Sons Renovation Contractor. He was responsible for presenting quotations and collecting payments for renovation work.
However, he was eventually caught for embezzling various payments totalling S$14,940 between December 20, 2005 and March 13, 2006. The company then reported his crime to the police.
It was revealed in court on Wednesday that it was not Abdul Samat’s first CBT charge. He was previously jailed and fined S$3,000 in 1993 for committing a similar offence.
His lawyer explained that Abdul Samat had gone into hiding, partly because he owed his ex-wife money for maintenance.
