A former employee of a luxury hotel was fined on Friday and ordered to pay a penalty for taking bribes in the form of loans from a taxi driver. In return, he assigned hotel guests to the driver's taxi.
Narayanasamy P. Annamalai, 46, a former bell captain with The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, was fined $20,000. He was also ordered to pay a penalty of $13,100, this being the amount he took in the 11 charges of corruption.
He had pleaded guilty to getting loans of between $300 and $2,000 from cabby Yip Kiam Bin in 2006 and 2008.
As he did not pay the fine and penalty, he will serve a 33-week jail term in default.
Another two former bell captains of the hotel were dealt with in August 2011.
