Engineers are inspecting an international passenger plane that was forced to make an emergency landing in Brisbane this afternoon.
The Etihad Airways A330 took off from Brisbane's international airport just after 2:00pm (AEST) with about 175 people on board.
Leonie Vandeven from the Brisbane Airport Corporation says the flight was on its way to Singapore when the pilot issued a mayday call shortly after taking off.
"Brisbane airport received a mayday call for an Etihad flight to return to the terminal after take off," she said.
"There were around 175 people onboard - it has landed safely and taxied to the terminal."
Ms Vandeven says emergency crews were placed on standby.
"In the case of a mayday call or an aircraft returning to a terminal under these sorts of circumstances, agencies such as fire and emergency certainly attend."
She says it is too early to determine what caused the incident.
