Eighteen people die in Egypt's shocking weather
Malaysia Sun
Monday 13th December, 2010

Eighteen people have died in Egypt after fierce storms hit the land.

Many of them were killed and injured in road accidents or when buildings collapsed.

Rescue workers have pulled the bodies of six workers out of the debris of a factory building in the northern city of Alexandria.

Heavy rains damaged the structure of the textile factory before collapsing it.

Fierce winds, heavy rains, snow and sandstorms have driven into many parts of the country with heavy storms lashing the eastern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries for several days.

The storms have also sunk a ship off the Israeli coast, closed ports and stopped shipping from passing through the Suez Canal.

With waves of up to 10 metres surrounding the entrance to the canal, shipping has been delayed.

In fact most Egyptian ports, both on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, have been closed due to winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h.

With the coastline receiving a battering, fishing boats have been dashed onto the shoreline or damaged at sea.
