I still remember learning in the first chapter of my Propaganda Social Studies textbook that one of our Government’s virtue is Meritocracy. Which means that one will progress based on talent and ability instead of wealth. Well, I used to believe in that too until I graduated. Allow me to illustrate to you why Meritocracy in our Education System is nothing but a joke.

The moment you’re born Alex, from a low/middle income family passes his O Levels with flying colors. He has to go to JC/Poly (2-3) before proceeding on to a local University (3 – 4) to complete his degree. Total time for a degree 5 – 7 years. Lee, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, just passed his O Levels. He heads to Aussie to do a foundation program before enrolling into an University there to complete his degree. Total time for a degree 4 years. Meritocracy? More like MONEYtocracy.

Not to forget, I haven’t even factored in the http://ariffin-sha.com/sg-education-system-money/
