Rule one—don’t attack PAP, your object is to win votes !
If one to two million foreigners throng sinkapore , somehow it will affect the livelihood of the local islanders, this is a ground fact .
Oppo parties can inform the voters that they respect the majority votes last GE when they voted for FT policy , and all local sinkaporeans would have to adjust themselves to suit the society at this present moment ! After all, they are oredi here !
Tell the voters that when FT policy is more open, employers are given more choice to hire ! This may mean cheaper labor .
Ask the voters, what is the bottom line of any business ? Lose money? Or earn money ?
If you are a boss, will you hire cheaper employees or the more expensive local employees ?
Although Oppo parties wish to support the Minimum wage for the local workers, but there are many issues affecting this system !
Be practical and honest with the voters about side effects ! The present Govt you voted may also tell you the same !
First, employers will not employ locals becos they becum expensive ! The employers may be compassionate about locals need to pay HDB loan and provide families with enough money to cope with first world expenses , but employers will not make enough profits to tie over their business if they pay minimum wage !
Second, if only locals are given minimum wage, FT workers will be unhappy and they may also protest uglily !
Third, even if present Govt implements the rule , many FT investors will run away due to oredi high costs of operation, and now got minimum wage to saddle !
Does this mean local workers would have no choice but to peg their salaries to the FT workers regardless what living costs they are struggling ?
Tell the voters that these are side effects of the open FT policy majority voters voted for last GE in 2006 !
Cheap labor is like heroin now to many employers !
Tell voters that Oppo parties can understand the local workers are trapped between the first -world environs and third -world salaries, this is what locals are facing now !
Amidst the damage , you voters may ask what can oppo parties do to alleviate the problem ?
Be honest with the voters about this first -world and third –world thingy in one small island and tell them these issues are very messy issues like HDB housing policy ! The big damage has oredi done !
Oppo parties must be honest and sincere about this Minimum wage issue, becos neither anyone or God can solve this problem at one go !
tell the voters , Look around you and you hell know what we mean !
Have to be frank with you oppo , Mr Tiu has no solid opinion on how to solve this problem , perhaps, this is a divine retribution ! A comeuppance !
But anyway, Oppo parties , pls think of something to replace the minimum wage , locals really need more money to survive in sinkapore !
Forget about rebates, growth shares, discount, etc, all these are one-two -time nonsense we are experiencing occasionally !
If you oppo parties insist to stress on minimum wage next GE, you will never win votes ! Think about the employers and business people, they are hooked to cheap labor , you will lose their votes !
But you must educate the voters why minimum wage is not OK in sinkapore but Ok in hongkong and taiwan.
Think of something more solid that is sustainable to replace minimum wage system since it cannot be done in sinkapore !
Think of something that can benefit the employers and the locals, and propose to the voters ….you will win votes !
Minimum wage system cannot work in sinkapore is not becos of PAP, it is the local voters’ mistake at the polls ! But tell the voters politely and tactfully !
Oppo should know PAP will defend no-minimum wage system becos they have to protect themselves, so think and formulate a system that is better, you need not wasting precious time quarrelling with PAP about minimum wage.
You have only 9 days to express your sincerity ! So go out and win your votes not dawdle your time to shaming PAP !
Cheers, to be continued .
May the force be with you !
