i want to share with everyone here simple honest-to-goodness recipe which all can cook in a jiffy and very economical and fulfiling.

pls share yours too :)

liang tofu, cost < $2

u won't believe it!

the lst meal i m sharing is actually liang tofu with instant noodle. as we know, ordering liang tofu fr hawker stall is very costly. every piece costs about at least 40c and above. there is a minimal order of certain number of pieces like maybe 6pcs which alone would be about $2.40. add in 60c noodle, beehoon or etc, final price would be at least $3.

this hawker fare used to be like $2 with 6 pcs of liang tofu assortment plus noodles or rice. now it's usually about $3.

i had my recent very depressing liang tofu meal in REPUBLIC. 5pcs plus noodles, dry version costed me $5.80! piangz!! daylight robbery!!

so here's what u can do at home.

step 1: buy your favorite instant noodle. for me, i choose NISSIN tomyam. 1 bag containing 5 pkt noodle cost about $1.95 so each pkt is about 40c only.

step 2: buy your liang tofu mixed packet from GIANT. remember only from GIANT which costs only $1.30 with about 10 pcs. yep! believe it!! 10 pcs! if u buy from CUNT, be prepared to pay like $1.80 for the same thing which is 50c or about 40% more costly. that's why it's aptly called CUNT instead of ntuc :oIo:

step: u r ready to cook. very easy. when the water is boiling, throw in the instant noodle n it's premixed soup base. then throw in all the liang tofu. if u like, break an egg into soup.

in less than 10 mins, ready to serve steaming hot :)

total cost: $1.70, definitely less than $2 a meal and very satisfying!:D

The problem with instant noodles is that most brands include bad things like preservatives, msg, salt etc. I suggest people look at the Koka brand which is more healthier.

Re: liang tofu, cost < $2

Of course if DIY cook will be 50% cheaper on average if compare to hawker.
But need to cook, wash and time consuming 1/2hr. Buying in supermarket and wash, cook.

Why not recommend some good food not found normally. Easy to cook and tasty.

If DIY cooking for 1 or 2 pax, usually cost more. Did a Bah Chor Mee not too long ago because of craving. Very the expensive.

that one slightly more expensive at $2.40, i.e, about 50c a pkt.

if u r afraid of the msg in most instant noodle premix soup base, use half the portion instead of the whole packet.

this DIY liang tofu is simple. not much washing. for those who are hygiene freaks, just rinse the liang tofu then thrown them into boiling pot of water. for me, i just dump everything in. the boiling water is enough to kill off any pathogens.

herbal garlic bread - YUMMY!!

to do this, maybe u got to grow some of your own herbs like basil, rosemary, oregano and etc.

for me, my li'l bro leetahsar grows and supplies me FOC :)

here's his powderful recipe. WARNING: it makes u quite horny after consumption. :D

ingredients: 2 eggs; wholemeal bread; fresh rosemary, basil, minced garlic, olive oil.

the last ingredient olive oil can be quite expensive. but hey! a 500ml bottle can last u for quite a long time and very good if u r making your own salad (which i would share later). olive oil is good for the heart and joints.

method:

1. add olive oil into frying pan. when hot break in the eggs. u can scramble or make sunny side. set flame to low. when egg about done, sprinkle rosemary on top.

2. chop the basil leaves n rosemary. add into the mince garlic. add in olive oil to make into a paste. apply to bread. throw into toaster. toast until can smell aroma.

3. wah la! wholesome breakfast ready.

rosemary is the secret to keep your mojo kicking ;)

If you ignore the health aspects that msg represent. Down the road you may end up with expensive health bills.

If one is budget constrained one should consider eating less of the healthy noodles & NOT less of the bad stuff.

Just my opinion of course since I know how costly it is to be sick in Spore:( Other than expensive medical bills you will also find it difficult to work. Unfortunately many take their health for granted until they lose it :(

there are so many factors that affect our health. we have even seen doctors dying young. mind you, they were "perfectly healthy" b4 they drop dead.

pinky's lst wife was an example. the weirder thing was: she dropped dead in the hospital she was working in. the shroud of mystery to her death is still....a mystery. but rumour had it that she actually committed suicide by lethal injection. fact or fiction, you decide.

we also witness virtually young, healthy, rugged young army boys also suddenly drop death. the cause is still a mystery.

so it isn't food - whether healthy or unhealthy food - that is the sole cause of death. our daily lifestyle also play an important part. as a general rule, practise moderation in everything we do or eat.

my intention of sharing honest to goodness food is to help you guys who might not be too well off, single or currently facing financial problems to be able to enjoy an inexpensive, wholesome and a quick DIY meal.

of course, if one is rich, then this thread would not be applicable. thanks for reading anyway. ;)

one quick shake and u shall be sextisfied the whole day

ok. the title is very cheeky. LOL!

the shake i m refering here is a vegetable/fruit combination shake. this formula is very versatile and should be taken at least once a week if u wanna remain in the pink.

INGREDIENTS:

1 small bittergourd; 1 pink grapefruit; 1 small carrot; 1 or 2 slices of seedless watermelon or sweet pineapple or 1 green apple (granny's smith).

1 or 2 tsp of honey

METHOD:

1. slice small bittergourd into halves. scrap out the seeds. cut into smaller pieces
2. remove rind of grapefruit. cut into pieces.
3. do the same to carrot, watermelon (or pineapple) and/or green apple
4. throw everything into a blender
5. add some water (if not the blender won't mix well)
6. add in the honey.
7. on blender and u get your SHAKE ready for consumption

the benefit of this is good for your body. it helps to detox, provides fibre n help in pooing. after drinking, u feel full for quite a long time and can even skip a meal. those who wanna diet and slim down, this is perfect for u and can be repeated a few times a week as a meal substitution. :)
