Two operators of a wedding gown shop in Kwun Tong have been arrested for allegedly cheating at least eight people out of HK$2 million in investment funds that were to be used for developing new outlets.

Police yesterday raided the five-year-old shop at Hoi Luen Industrial Centre on Hoi Yuen Road and nabbed the married couple aged 32 and 33, after receiving complaints from a man and seven women aged 29 to 47.

The eight were invited to invest in the pair’s expansion plan from October 2011 to March this year. Under the plan, they contributed between tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

But their contributions did not pay off as they were unable to access financial records when they sought to learn more about their investments.

The main shop in Kwun Tong and two branches in Kowloon Bay and Causeway Bay later ceased business operations.

The investors called the police last month after failing to reach the pair for months.

Officers collected various documents and business records in the raid conducted in the Kwun Tong shop in which the pair was staging a clearance sale.

The pair was detained. Kwun Tong district investigation team was investigating.

Police believed the case might have involved more people. Anyone with information about the case should call the investigators at 2703 2267 or 2703 2355.
