Driver seized for transporting 200 human placentas

A driver transporting more than 200 human placentas in a van was seized at a highway toll station in Ji'an, southeast China's Jiangxi province on Tuesday, Chinanews.com reports.

When asked about the nature of the cargo, the driver told the police it was seafood, however, police discovered human placentas sealed in eight insulated containers.
The van owner later admitted that the placentas were collected from hospitals in Jiangxi province and transported to Henan province for processing.
All placentas have been delivered to a local clinical waste treatment station for incineration.
According to Chinese law, discarded placentas are clinical waste and must be handed over to waste treatment centers. Transporting and selling human placentas are illegal.
