[h=1]DR TING REJECTS MINDEF'S LEGAL THREATS: NEW HARASSMENT ACT DOESN'T APPLY TO MINISTRIES[/h]
Post date:
10 Feb 2015 - 10:18pm

Background Story: MINDEF THREATENS TO SUE FORMER PATENT OWNER FOR HARASSMENT

Dr Ting Choon Meng, the Founder of MobileStats and the former patent holder for a mobile medical station which was allegedly "stolen" by MINDEF, has said that he will not be abiding my MINDEF's legal demands to stop "harassing" them.

Dr Ting had alleged that the Ministry of Defence had stolen his idea for the Mobile Medical Station after seeing the invention at a trade fair in 2005. Shortly after that meeting, MINDEF came up with a very similar vehicle to the patented design and when Dr Ting took action for breach of patent, MINDEF proceeded to apply to get Dr Ting's patent revoked.

His patent was subsequently revoked and when Dr Ting shared his story online, he was issued a legal letter from MINDEF demanding that he "cease and desist" making false statements about MINDEF having "stolen" his invention.

The legal letter, published on Socio-Political website The Online Citizen, threatened to take out a protection order under the new Protection from Harassment Act passed in November 2014 should Dr Ting continue to make false statements about MINDEF.
Under the new law, violations of protection orders can result in fined of up to $10,000 and imprisonment of up to 2 years for repeat offenders.

In a response, Dr Ting's Lawyers from Peter Low LLC claimed argued that the new act "is clearly not intended to apply to the Ministry of Defence, which has ample resources to defend itself and publicly clarify its official position via public channels."

The full response letter was published on TOC.

KNN, Mindef is filled with a bunch of useless morons..........greedy morons.

Like dat, how to protect the country from invaders? Laughing stock leh.

It's uniquely Sink-a-pore. How did the President Scholars, Colombo Plan Scholars, Overseas Merit Scholars in Mindef come up with such a lousy plan of action? Jiak-liao-bee.

Re: Dr ting rejects mindef's legal threats: New harassment act doesn't apply to minis

What a joke!

AGC does not know that Protection Against Harassment does not apply to MINDEF which is not a natural person!! First year law student knows this fact!!

Why are we paying top dollars to monkeys who do not know their biz??????????????????

Re: Dr ting rejects mindef's legal threats: New harassment act doesn't apply to minis

What is MINDEF hiding that it doesn't dare to sue????

Re: Dr ting rejects mindef's legal threats: New harassment act doesn't apply to minis

This is laughable, were it not so disgustingly contemptible. The legal department is either

1. Abjectly incompetent, not knowing who or what the Harassment Act applies to; or
2. Completely compliant to the dictates of the executive, thus abusing a piece of legislation for political purposes

Incompetent or compliant, it measures up to most definitions of a corrupt, totalitarian and despotic judiciary and legal system. In other words, a kangaroo court.

Good new is, be prepared to see Ting standing for elections soon, under the SDP.

Alright! Way to go!

Entrepreneurs like that would shun opposition in the past because they needed the government support. Today, PAP's abuse of power system including stealing patents and betraying entrepreneurs drove them to join the opposition, especially a radical one like SDP. Like in Malaysia how Khalid Ibrahim joined PKR and Tony Pua joined DAP.

A government department cannot even be held accountable. Next time when I complain about HDB, will I also be charged for "harassment".

I notice a question was filed by WP's Gerald Giam on this matter. PAP's Indranee replied that the government has confiscated 2 patents in the last decade.

For being a country not known for creativity, how many entrepreneurs and patents do you think Singapore has produced in the last 10 years. Isn't 2 a lot?
