Three jabs of the controversial COVID-19 vaccine didn’t prevent 44th President Barack Obama from catching the coronavirus, but he credits them for the mild symptoms he’s experiencing while ill.

Obama revealed that he tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms in a tweet posted earlier today. Then, the former president added that he is “grateful” for the vaccine that did not prevent the spread of the virus, at least in his case.


“I just tested positive for COVID. I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise,” Obama said.

“Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative.”

Obama added that his example – catching the virus despite three doses of the vaccine – should serve as “a reminder to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, even as cases go down.”

The development comes as major pharmaceutical giants Moderna and Pfizer continue developing a fourth dose of the controversial injections, designed with a different formula that aims to specifically target the Omicron variant, Valiant News reported Friday. It has yet to be approved, though the pharma companies are hoping they will be ready later this year.

Moderna Chief Medical Officer Dr. Paul Burton recently told NBC News that people are “going to need an updated Covid vaccine this fall, one that’s ‘tuned to the right combination of variants.’”

The emergence of the Omicron variant proved to be a challenge for the U.S. government last winter, as the newly dominant strain appeared to be infecting many Americans who had already received two COVID vaccine injections, prompting a systematic campaign to convince citizens to receive a third dose, popularly known as a “booster” shot.

In December, Democrat Senators Corey Booker and Elizabeth Warren had also tested positive for COVID-19 despite being injected three times with COVID vaccines, urging others to get vaccinated three times.
