The 30th Anniversary of the June 4th Anniversary
In 1989, China’s bloody suppression of the Tiananmen Square democracy movement ended today’s 30th anniversary. American female journalist Barmer visited the people on the streets of the heavily guarded Beijing city to see the June 4th incident. He was quickly taken away by the police and detained for 6 hours. Released.
CBS News's correspondent Elizabeth Palmer pretended to be a tourist and peers into the tightly controlled Tiananmen Square. She also showed photos of the June 4th incident to some Chinese people on the streets. Most of them said they could not recognize those. The photo was taken there.
When Barmer showed the June 4th incident, "Tank Man" Wang Weilin bravely blocked a famous photo of a chariot with a flesh and asked a man if he had seen this photo. He replied: "No."
A few minutes later, when Bammer asked a young woman, the police officer suddenly appeared, took her and other staff away, and detained him for 6 hours.
"Tankman" Wang Weilin became a representative figure of the June 4th incident, but it also became the object of China's strict control of the blockade. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) correspondent in Beijing, John Sudworth, also asked the passers-by on the streets of Beijing yesterday whether he had seen the "tank man" image that blocked the tank.
Eighty percent of the respondents said to Sha Lei that they have never seen images of tankers. Many of them seem to have never seen them before, but some people may not dare to admit them because they are too scared.
