Médecins Sans Frontières, the medical aid charity, says one of its staff members has been killed in the giant al-Hawl camp housing families of Islamic State fighters in Syria.

The death last week of the unnamed aid worker brings to more than 30 the number of people who have died in attacks in the camp, which is becoming increasingly lawless.

It is home to more than 65,000 people, four fifths of them women and children but also some adult men. All were displaced by the final assault by US-backed forces who drove back Isis between 2014-2019, and they include many Isis wives and children.

Within the camp, a separated area houses around 10,000 foreign women and children, including several dozen said to be from Britain….
