Doctor paid friend to take his night shifts

A young doctor who got his friend to do night shifts for him has been censured by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC).

Dr Ho Mien, now 35, had a friend take two of his night shifts in 2008, claimed compensation, then paid his friend the amount.

He was a House Officer at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) at the time. Last December, he was officially charged with two counts of improper conduct that brought disrepute to the medical profession.

Since Dr Ho did not follow the established procedure for switching shifts, the chairman of the House Officer Training Committee at SGH lodged a complaint with the council in October 2008.

It was the reverse for me. I was young then and needed the money. Working in a refinery we had to do 1-2 night duties per month. The money was good for staying there doing nothing just on standby and if you were called to attend to some faults, they also pay you by the hour in fact even for 5mins job the starting pay was 3hrs. Weekends double for staying and for the jobs. Really good money and laujeows have money and family don't like to do so sinjeows like me makan, win win situation. So if have laujeow friends can contract their duties. One month can do 8 to 12 duties shiok shiok end of the month plenty of money. Everyone happy.
