Doctor suspended for wrong cause of death
Posted: 23 August 2011 1110 hrs

SINGAPORE: A doctor had certified that a patient had died of congestive cardiac failure.

But the Singapore Medical Council found that there was not enough evidence or available medical records of the patient to make such a conclusion.

It said the only conclusion which could be made was that the patient had hypertension.

For this, Dr Kwan Kah Yee, 60, a general practitioner at Superbcity Hospice in Peninsula Plaza, was suspended for three months, fined S$5,000 and censured.

A family member of the deceased patient had lodged a complaint back in November 2009 and an inquiry into the complaint was held between April and July this year.

Dr Kwan contested the charge.

His three-month suspension took effect on August 12, 2011.
