Doctor jailed for assaulting female cop
By Elena Chong
A MEDICAL doctor who pushed a female police officer on the arms and kicked her on the abdomen was jailed for two weeks on Friday.
Khoo Buk Kwong, 49, a locum, admitted to an amended charge of causing hurt to Sergeant Elaine Elicia De Costa, 27, at K-Box at Orchard Cineleisure, Grange Road, on Nov 3 last year.
The court heard that the police were called when Khoo refused to settle a bill of $125 after a night out with six of his friends.
He was found lying in front of the premises by Sergeant De Costa and her colleague who woke him up.
He started shouting and pushed their hands when they held him on the shoulders. After a verbal warning, he calmed down and agreed to pay.
However, when the officers were trying to support him as he seemed unsteady, Khoo gesticulated wildly and shouted at them to let him go.
Subsequently, he pushed the victim on the arms several times and kicked her on the abdomen.
Khoo, who was convicted under the Poisons Act and fined $60,000 in March, was suspended for three months from April 2 by the Singapore Medical Council for professional misconduct.
He was practising at Health-Plus Clinic at Block 307 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4.
