A DOCTOR accused of molesting a hospital staff member early this year walked out of court a free man yesterday after the offence was compounded.
Dr Thiyagarajan Mathimaran, 33, paid $5,000 to the 42-year-old woman to have the case compounded or settled out of court yesterday.
The Indian national was working at Changi General Hospital (CGH) when he was said to have squeezed her breast and later brushed against her buttocks in a staff toilet at the Simei Street 3 hospital on Jan 1. The married man had worked in two other hospitals before being posted to CGH last year.
In court yesterday, the woman was present to confirm that she accepted composition. Dr Thiyagarajan was represented by lawyer K.R. Manicka who succeeded in his representations to compound the matter.
Provisions in the law allow for minor offences such as simple molestation cases, wrongful restraint or causing hurt to be settled out of court.
This happens only if the victim agrees to drop the matter in place of some form of compensation.
