The people born with silver spoons are characters like Roy Ngerng who have never known what it is like to grow up in an environment of uncertainty and volatility that defined the 50s and early 60s.
In his childhood, LHL woke up each morning not knowing if his father would still be around by the end of the day. Politics was a dangerous game in those days.
It must have been extremely traumatic for the young LHL to have to deal with these sorts of dangers so early in life.
It is because of this that he has decided to dedicate his life to making the lives of Singaporeans better. He is a brilliant mathematician and could easily have opted for a stress free academic career. Instead, he risked his health in the service of his country.
For this reason, I will be forever grateful to LHL for the sacrifices he has made.
