Disturbing video shows Chinese mother whipping her daughter in public after she catches her skipping school

A furious mother beats her daughter in public after she catches her skipping school.
The disturbing video, taken in Pingtung city, Taiwan, shows the school girl kneeling down as she is berated by her furious parent.
First the mother orders her to slap herself across the face before pulling out what appears to be a whip or a belt and using it to the thrash the girl.

Stunned passers-by attempt to intervene but appear to be too frightened to argue with the mother and she continues to dish out the punishment.
The beating continued until police officers arrived and forced the woman to stop.
The girl was reportedly sent back home with her father while social workers were called in to try an prevent any further incidents.
It is not known if the mother was arrested.
