What if the people want a president that does not need to be nice to the PM or the govt and want him to be firm and be ready to say no to the govt, should they then vote for someone that is more distant from the govt? To influence the govt or to check on the govt are two distinct roles that require quite a different character in the president.

They want us to vote for Tony Tan, their choice. I will decide on the 17th August and if they still insist to have a compliant EP, then most likely I will abstain. There is no point in electing someone who the PAP will consign to the cold storage if he wants to voice out against policies not good for the citizens.

Electing a President and all the guard dogs start barking.
Andrew Kuan was badly mauled by a bayi guard dog many years ago.

Why no balls to vote. If your feelings are strong against PAP stooges then discuss here and collectively decide who will speak out for you. I am voting for TKL. At least he making enough noise. If he is disqualified, will just pick the 2nd choice.
