I dont remember any live coverage of moscow awaiting the news of who will host the YOG 4 years ago. I dont recall seeing any dissappointed russians on TV/newspapers after the results were announced.

That was vastly different from the reactions of other loser nations who bid to host the REAL olympics.

I also remember seeing crowds of students and various Gov officials gathering at the padang and cheering even before the results were announced. It felt like they knew that spore had already won the bid!

yes, usually there will be an inkling like chance very high....etc...otherwise the VIPs will not be bothered to attend or re-schedule their meetings, etc.

definitely before the announcement, there will be some hints liao. I believe Moscow participate to make the whole bidding shit looks competitive...otherwise a walkover will be like un-glam.

Moscow, a heritage rich city have held Olympics before, whats YOG to them? They could easily handle it without issues.

actually what i fear is the Olympic curse.

Look at Atalanta - 1996 Olympics, after that, there is bombing and crisis

Look at Sydney - 2000 Olympics, after that economy go downturn & Sep 11.

Look at Athens - 2004 Olympics - after that, Greece in credit shit

then Beijing 2008 - we know, financial crisis.

Ok, so every 4 years is cyclical thingy..but they do say, there is this Curse of the Olympics for the hosting city.

Sinkapore willingness to spend so much $$$ on Youths that's why we win the bid!

2010 Finalist City Name Country (IOC country code)

Moscow Russia (RUS)

Host of the 1980 Summer Olympics and three IOC Sessions. Russia aggressively campaigned for the games with its prior Olympic history and recent win with the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. President Vladimir Putin showed a high profile in support of the games.[20] Moscow planned a "Web University" to enhance interaction and awareness of traditions from all cultures of the world. However, overspending and low revenue were criticized.[21]

In the evaluation, the IOC discouraged the use of the web university. Otherwise, Moscow scored high in almost every area except finance, primarily because of a high budget. (Only Athens had a higher proposed budget.)

Moscow budgeted US$180 million, including almost half of which (US$76 million) for culture and education programs. The bid was praised for solid government guarantees, an improved contingency fund, and the fact that most venues were ready. Most of the venues and Olympic village are from the 1980 Summer Olympics, which have been maintained over the years. Also cited was Moscow's experience to deliver on time and on target. If they had won, Moscow would have had to work closely with the organizers of Sochi's 2014 Winter Olympics to avoid conflicts in marketing and other areas.[16]

Moscow garnered the support of some high profile celebrities, such as tennis player Maria Sharapova.[22] The Russian Sports Channel RTR-Sport pledged to provide 100% broadcast coverage to all participating countries.[23]
