EVEN as his son tearfully begged not to be sent away, this desperate father called Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao last Friday – asking for help in finding a good Samaritan to take in his boy.
The unemployed Mr Zhang Xing De, 41, explained that he and his wife could no longer care for their 10-year-old son John, as she was mentally retarded and he himself was very sick.
"I have spinal disease, diabetes and often experience bad headaches," he told Lianhe Wanbao.
When contacted by The New Paper, he said that being hit by a car in 2003 had damaged his spinal cord, leaving him hospitalised for nearly two weeks.
