Dentist censured and fined for professional misconduct

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Dental Council (SDC) has fined a dentist S$15,000 and censured him for professional misconduct.
Dr Sng Wee Hock, who operates WH Dental Surgeons at Punggol Field Road and Hougang Point, was also ordered to pay 80 per cent of the cost of the hearing, and to undertake in writing not to repeat the offence.
In a statement on Monday, the council said a patient had lodged a complaint against Dr Sng for telling her that the cost of a dental procedure that she was considering could be fully claimed from her Medisave Account when that was not true.
Dr Sng denied the charge.
A hearing followed and the disciplinary committee found that Dr Sng had made the misrepresentation.
The committee also ruled that the misrepresentation amounted to professional misconduct as it was likely to have made an impact on the patient's decision to go for the treatment.
