"I trusted that my food would be handled responsibly, and that trust has been completely broken," said the customer.
A delivery rider was sighted pouring porridge, which had spilled into the plastic bag during delivery, back into its container before handing it over to the customer.
The incident took place on Nov. 22 in Yio Chu Kang.
Plastic bag was sticky
Speaking to
Mothership, the customer, Angela Hoi, stated that she sensed something was wrong when the rider called her at 12:15pm but arrived at her unit only seven minutes later.
She noticed the plastic bag containing the food was sticky and dripping when she collected it, but she initially brushed it off as spillage due to movement during the delivery.
Received a note from her neighbour
Hoi then went out, but upon returning home, she discovered a note left by her neighbour.
The note alleged that he saw the delivery rider pouring the porridge, which had spilled into the plastic bag, back into its container at the lift lobby.
He also provided photos and time-stamped videos showing the incident.
Hoi also clarified that she had ordered through GrabFood, though the rider was seen carrying a foodpanda delivery bag.
Comments online pointed out that the rider could be making deliveries for more than one platform.
A comment suggested that the rider poured the porridge back to the container as he was afraid of being asked to pay for the spillage and added that not all riders are like him.
Another comment said that such an act may not be uncommon and suggested platforms and restaurants to do something to avoid such unhygienic behaviours such as sealing the plastic bags up.
Lodged a complaint with Grab
Hoi stated that she has since lodged a complaint with Grab but has yet to receive a response.
"I trusted that my food would be handled responsibly, and that trust has been completely broken," she said.
"It’s frightening to think that my meal was tampered with right outside my doorstep, and I had already eaten part of it without knowing."
