A study has shown the Samsung Galaxy S4 has “useless” features which are bad for users
The Samsung Galaxy S4 (16GB) has won yet another accolade – although Samsung won’t be celebrating this one. According to Which, the 16GB Galaxy S4 ships with less available storage aboard it than any other 16GB handset on market today. And the reason? Bloatware, of course.
The 16GB Galaxy S4 offers 54% of the advertised storage. The next device on the list – the LG G2 – fairs slightly better, offering 10.37GB of usable storage – or, 65% of the advertised storage.
Some handsets offer a much better value for money when it comes to storage. For example the iPhone 5c offers 12.6GB of useable storage and the Google Nexus 5 offers 12.28GB of storage.
Which believe Samsung’s pre-loaded apps and features are to blame for the lack of storage on the device. “Many manufacturers further stuff their phone with pre-loaded apps, skins and bloatware. And no phone has more piping, braiding and frills than the Samsung Galaxy S4,” said Which.
"Running on
Android, Samsung has heavily customised the S4 with their Touchwiz interface. This includes many of Samsung’s own features but, while it looks pretty and grabs headlines, most of the stuff is next to useless. Eye tracking technology that pauses video when you look away from the screen sounds attractive but in reality it works badly, gulps down your battery and monopolises your internal storage.”
The only question now is will Samsung sit up and take notice of the fact it is offering the least value for money when it comes to storage? 64GB versions of the Galaxy S4 are still harder to find than hen’s teeth in the UK, and this isn’t likely to change with the release of the
Galaxy S5 (at least, not in the UK, anyway).
