Vyacheslav Matrosov, a 35-year-old Russian father, took the law into his own hands when he compelled the man who sexually abused a six year old child to dig his own grave in a forest before convincing him to take his own life. After discovering disturbing footage of the child being forced into sexual acts, Matrosov confronted Oleg Sviridov, 32, the perpetrator and former family friend.

The chilling recording captured the child's desperate cries: "Oleg, that's enough, I can't take it anymore. I want to go home."

The encounter between Matrosov and Sviridov ended with Sviridov's death. Initially, Matrosov was accused of murder, but it was later determined that Sviridov had inflicted the fatal wounds upon himself.

In 2022, Matrosov was sentenced to 18 months in prison, serving 12 months before being released. Public support in Russia surged for Matrosov after details emerged of how he made the child molester dig his own grave.

Upon his release, Matrosov shared an image on social media captioned: "Home. Love very much," reports the Mirror US.

He was found guilty by the Krasnoglinsky Court in Samara of "inciting" Sviridov "to suicide" resulting in an 18-month sentence in a strict regime penal colony.

If Matrosov had been found guilty of murder, the ex-rocket engine factory worker might have been looking at a sentence of up to 15 years behind bars. The local community in the Samara region has shown strong support for Matrosov following his involvement in the death of convicted paedophile Sviridov, attracting international attention to the case.

Residents of Pribrezhnoye have been generously contributing to Matrosov's legal fees. A petition with over 2,500 signatures has emerged, demanding Matrosov's freedom, while locals commend him for "saving our children by ridding us of a child sex attacker."

TV personality and former Russian presidential candidate Ksenia Sobchak has voiced her support, stating: "All parents are standing up for the pedophile's killer."
