GROs in secret rooms
When police raided a pub in Taman Nusa Bestari, Nusajaya, Johor, at 11pm Sunday there was nobody in the premises.
Initially the cops were puzzled, but when they decided to scrutinise every nook and cranny, they found two secret rooms hidden behind mirrors in the stage and lounge areas.
Inside were 19 women aged between 22 and 26 including 15 Filipinos who were detained.
“The rooms, behind glass panels, were carefully hidden but we managed to uncover them. Each room can easily fit 20 people or more,” said Johor anti-vice, gaming and secret societies chief commanding officer Deputy Supt Tan Yap Seng.
Some of the foreign women have been in the country since 2005 and had violated their visitor’s pass by working as GROs, DSP Tan said.
“They entered and left the country frequently to avoid detection,” he added.
DSP Tan said police also detained the pub owner, a local aged 27, along with eight customers aged between 27 and 46.
The pub did not have a proper licence to operate, he added.
