Couple jailed for hurting maid <!--10 min-->

WHEN their new maid burst into tears because she could not finish a task she was set, her employers should have talked it out with her. Instead Gideon Yip Yick Weng, 32, and Angela Tay Yan Hwee, 39, threatened, slapped, humiliated and terrified Ms May Shiela Ornales Juanico. Last month, the couple pleaded guilty to hurting her and were sentenced. Yip, a businessman, was jailed six weeks for slapping the Filipina. Tay, an executive, was sentenced to three weeks in prison for pulling Ms Juanico's hair and using a finger to push her forehead. They are appealing against the sentences and are out on bail of $10,000 each.
