T’was some whacking the police got from the coroner. As reported in ST today, State Coroner Imran Abdul Hamid described the investigation report into the 2011 murder of a Chinese national in Marina Boulevard as “quite disappointing’’.
Seems there was some foreign DNA at the scene of crime – Mr Wu Hui was bashed on the head. The coroner wanted the gender determined. He also wanted telephone records of two cellphones found near the dead man. One doesn’t have to be a CSI fan to ask why nothing was done about the cellphones. Instead the police gave two scenarios: He was either killed by another Chinese national who, like him, was acting illegally as a go-between for employment agents and would-be migrant workers; or he was killed by someone whom he borrowed money from as he’s a gambler.
The coroner said he wanted more work done, to narrow down the pool of suspects. In TNP, the same coroner (very busy man) also had questions for another inquest – that of a military policeman who appeared to have hanged himself. He asked for position of a small table where the body was found – as well as the position of the body.
Seems the police are being kept on their toes quite a bit. As they should be, given the amount of bad press (international) that has been circulating about its investigation processes, particularly over the death of American Shane Todd in Singapore. The family has a litany of complaints about the difference between what they were told and what they found at the scene, including a computer disc which supposedly provided some clues to how or why he died. No doubt, we haven’t heard the end of THAT story yet.
