Cop beaten up while leaving woman's apartment
SANDAKAN: A policeman, who had gone to help a female friend on some personal matters, was assaulted by a group of men that included the woman’s husband.
The corporal sustained injuries to his head, arms and fingers after the men pounced on him with helmets and rotan as he was leaving the woman’s apartment in Hsiang Garden at about 1am on Friday.
The 35-year-old policeman, who is based at the district police headquarters, was treated at the Duchess of Kent Hospital here.
In his police report, he said he had gone to the woman’s house at her request as she needed help over some family matter.
The woman’s husband is a prison warden.
Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Rowell Marong said that police did not rule out jealousy or personal issues behind the assault.
In an unrelated matter, marine police here arrested six Filipinos on a speedboat as they attempted to slip into Sabah on Friday night.
Personnel onboard a marine boat spotted the speedboat heading towards Nunuyan Island from the open sea at about 11pm, said state marine police commander ACP Mohamad Madun.
