MRT service had became a part of our daily lives, with daily routines dependence & reliance upon such efficient services for decades. However, should our MRT needs to shutdown for more than a day, then there must be a comprehensive alternative plan to ensure daily lives continue as smoothly as possible.

1. Bus services had been the alternative to MRT lines. Such would have to INCREASE their frequency to meet with demand, thru alternative routing for short haul routes, than to continue with long haul bus paths, & also not jam up roads.

2. Private car owners may consider giving a lift, especially to co-workers during this period, to maximize road use & productivity for the company that they work in, during such period.

Those whom are using private cars for non-essential purposes such as a visit to the hairdresser, shopping, cafes, etc, should refrain from using such transportation means during peak periods -6am to 10am & 5pm to 7pm daily, so as not to congest the roads.

3. During such periods, taxis & private hire car operators should ONLY accept service for students, especially during their critical exam periods. To get their co-operation, perhaps a tax decrease of 2% can be used as an incentive for their kindness & cooperation.

Parents of those kids would be given grocery vouchers to offset costs of private hire transportation means so that kids would not miss exams

4. For workers whom cannot work from home, & may be late for work due to traffic congestions during such periods, may employers be more understanding & not deduct their pay or use such to deduct their performance ratings.

Instead, as PRODUCTIVITY is critical to biz enterprises, those workers whom took the effort to wake up early, to catch the early transports & report to work on time, they will be rewarded an extra $20/day. For employers whom are understanding & adopt such practices, such costs will be considered as tax deductibles.

5. Should the MRT repair works go on into even weekends, where most families & citizens would go out on visits & tourist attractions, then MPs perhaps organize private bus services to favorite hotspots such as orchard road & to other town centers using the expressways to avoid congestions on roads.

6. During such periods, tempers will fray, thus more traffic controllers & marshals would have to be stationed at busy road junctions such as town areas, to keep everyone calm & direct traffic fairly, to prevent selfish others from hogging streets & car park lots.

This plan is already currently in placed.
The problem is that it will still be chaotic as it will take some time for activating all the relevant support parties and marshals. Commuters will still be stuck with the current plan.

I believe some pte car owners are also already sending some of their colleagues home too.
For the essential or not is not upto anyone to determine becos it is subjective. Some people may only have that day available for shopping/salon etc and dates been fixed. Some people never go work nevermind but must eat as it is essential item to them.

You have the wrong priority set for this.
Students can stop going to school and postpone exam as it is not critical at all, and no impact to the financial economy for short term destruction. They should stay at home and let the adults go work.

Many employees that cannot work from home actually are not bothered for going work late during this period. Some are even happier so that they can wake up later as the employer can't penalise them for this.

Fav hotspots during weekends are mostly around their neighbourhood so they should walk. Orchard etc are for foreigners.

Traffic controllers and marshals are currently already in placed. We cannot have more as it will add on to the existing crowds and become a nuisance instead.

For this, the priority should be set for people going for medical attention I.e hospitals and polyclinics as health is more important than exams.

Thanks for sharing Mr Sbfuncle.

The insignificant nobody mine thread & 1st post is only meant for overcoming issues & merely a proposal.

I am sure there are others whom may have better & pragmatic ideas as solutions than mine or yours.

This is our country & home. We will either rise with it TOGETHER as ONE, or sink with indifference or believe in lies, envy & hate from others, some whom are not locals to begin with

You're welcome and sbf, a place full of wise individuals, welcome any constructive ideas and proposals.

For travel information within Singapore the insignificant nobody me use our local website - streetdirectory.com.

It gives REALTIME info on transportation means with maps, with 4 DETAILED choices - walk, by car, bus, mrt, etc to plan my daily journeys.

May it be a help to all.

Thanks for your input Mr Cocobobo.

When all else fails, we Humankind will have to revert back to the basics.

The contraption that you bothered to show derives no electrical energy, but only Human energy upon existing infrastructure to move from one point to another..

As electrical energy had been cut off, it may be a far quicker option than to walk the far distance to investigate & repair mechanical failures.

Ultimately, the aim is to get the MRT system up & running asap, no matter the blame games played out.

Once up & running, there would be no need of the dinosaur relic you proposed ')

Sinkie selfish work so hard to spend so much money, want to give rides to other people? :D:D

My friends driving taxis and PDVL say they not going to work tomorrow! :D:D:D

once new MRT lines go live... certain bus services are removed to avoid duplication.

they want to divert revenue to the MRT lines to show profits. or new bus services introduced to only divert passenger traffic to certain MRTs stations only,

(if I am correct, bus services belonging to SBST will of course divert to train stations run by SBST.)
and bus services belonging to SMRT will be cleverly divert to train station run by SMRT.

there are no long distance bus services introduced. Tengah new town is such an example. buses introduced simply end at Beauty world station.

if you expect massive jams at MRT stations, bus stops, and roads and expressways...why would you risk tumpang colleagues and need to detour and risk getting into jams and more jams yourself???? you work in say Boon Lay, stay in Queenstown...would you offer to tumpang colleagues staying in Lakeside, Jurong East, Clementi, Ghim Moh etc....

0300hrs....3 more hours to 0600hrs..start of the day.
I see lightning flashes and hear thunder in the distance...

LOL after such a long history of breakdowns, they still dun have a thorough set of contingency plans ?

Seems like every major breakdown is see how first, see where we can deploy more resources, see public reactions etc...meanwhile minister in charge no where to be seen.

There should be a set of emergency buses and crew ready to come into action the moment mrt breaks. Maybe 50 sets altogether.
Plus a emergency operation team to set and dictate the bus routes to the drivers.
