A DIRECTOR of a recruitment company was jailed for two months on Thursday for corruptly giving a $140,000 bribe to a senior human resource officer of a company.
Tan Cheng Hock, 50, admitted to bribing Ms Loke Geok Nee, 37, then a senior human resource staffing administrator with Seagate Technology International, for her help in securing a tender for his company to provide foreign labour to the hard disk drive maker in 2007.
Ms Loke was jailed for seven months last August.
A district court heard that Tan's company, AA Recruitment Network, was among Seagate's approved list of contractors to take part in a tender exercise in August 2007. Tan then approached Ms Loke for help.
Among other things, she advised him how AA Recruitment should conduct its dealings and its work-flow processes and vet his draft proposal.
After AA Recruitment was awarded the tender, Tan gave her $1,000 for each foreign worker recruited as promised earlier, totalling $140,000.
A second charge of giving her a $780 watch was considered during his sentencing.
