Company director accused of assault and mischief
by Shaffiq Alkhatib 04:45 AM Aug 12, 2011
SINGAPORE - A man who allegedly pinned a young woman to the ground at the Jurong East MRT Station in December last year now faces assault charges.
Bradley Joseph Furness, a 48-year-old company director, allegedly did so as he thought that she was trying to steal his mobile phone. It is believed that Furness grabbed Ms Tan Ching Hong, 22, by the neck and pushed her to the floor. Furness, a Singaporean, is nearly 2m tall, while Ms Tan stood about a head shorter than him. Earlier media reports said Ms Tan suffered minor injuries including redness on her neck following the alleged incident.
Furness is also believed to have assaulted a 45-year-old man on March 7. He allegedly elbowed Mr Jonathan Yeo Wee Liong in the face outside Nanyang Primary School in Coronation Road at around 4pm that day. Furness is also accused of one count of mischief.
It is believed that he had lifted the windscreen wiper of Mr Yeo's car with the intention of damaging it. The case has been adjourned to next Thursday. If convicted of assault, Furness could be jailed up to two years and fined a maximum of S$5,000 on each charge. If found guilty of mischief, he could be jailed up to a year and fined.
