Certificate of entitlement (COE) prices for cars continued to defy gravity at the latest tender on Wednesday.
COE for cars up to 1,600cc and taxis ended at $58,501, up from $56,501 two weeks ago. The premium for cars above 1,600cc closed at $83,700, up from $82,003. Open COE, which can be used to register any type of vehicle but ends up mainly for bigger cars, rose from $80,101 to finish at $84,590.
These premiums remain the highest since the mid-1990s. The rate for commercial vehicles ended at a new high of $53,989, up from $51,511. The motorcycle COE was the only one that ended lower. It dipped to $1,896, from $2,000.
Looks like eventually only the rich are entitled to own cars. All peasants use MRT and buses and the middle-income uses taxis. The rest take Bus No. 11.
