CNB makes big catch in 24-hr drugs sting operation

THE Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) made a big catch on Wednesday during a 24-hour operation targeted at both drug trafficking and drug abuse.
In the first part of the two-pronged operation that lasted from Wednesday to Thursday, about $150,000 of heroin was seized during an ambush.
CNB officers arrested a 58-year-old Singaporean man in the Chai Chee area who was carrying approximately 1kg of heroin. About $3,900 cash was also found on the man and confiscated.
The suspect will be investigated for drug trafficking. If found guilty, he will face the death penalty. Officers also combed the island, from HDB units to public areas, to nab drug abusers.
There were 80 suspected drug abusers, of which 54 tested positive for controlled drugs. Six traffickers were arrested during the operation.
Another 8.5g of heroin, 8.9g of Ice and 9 Erimin-5 tablets were seized from the operation targeted at drug abusers.
