SINGAPORE - A cleaner was sentenced to 13 months' jail on Monday (Sept7) for having underage sex with a 13-year-old girl, who had planned to run away from home after school due to some family problems.
On Feb 10, this year, when Mohammad Noor Mohammad Ali sent the girl a message to meet him, she took the chance to skip school and met him at Marsiling MRT station.
The 23-year-old took the victim, who was in her secondary school uniform, to a Housing Board block in the estate where he sexually abused her at a staircase landing.
They parted ways after she told him she wanted to go home. She went to meet a friend.
A few days later, Noor sent another text message, asking her to meet him. But the victim did not want to be disturbed by him again and told him that she was at the police station.
Noor then threatened her, saying that if he were put into a lock-up, he would come out and do something to her. He also said he was "used" to being in a lock-up.
The two came to know each other late last year in a WhatsApp chat group. She told the group she was 14 when she was only 13.
Noor, who has had a string of convictions for property-related offences including theft and robbery, jumped bail after he pleaded guilty to one of three charges of sexual penetration of a minor in June. A warrant was issued for his arrest on July 20.
He was re-arrested on Aug 27 and was sentenced to 13 months' jail on Monday. The other two charges were taken into consideration.
The maximum penalty for the offence is 10 years' jail and a fine.
