An argument broke out between a couple when the wife did not go to work on Deepavali as planned. The husband punched her forehead, slapped her and accused her of cheating on him.
Letchimi Suppiah retaliated by picking up a fruit knife with a 10cm-long blade from a table and stabbing him four times in the chest and abdomen.
On Thursday, the cleaner was fined $3,000, as the court felt that calling for probation would be inappropriate considering her age.
The 54-year-old had pleaded guilty to a charge of grievously hurting her unemployed husband Velmurugan Singaran, 51, under grave and sudden provocation in the incident last year.
