Junior, mid-level civil servants to get pay increase
A few thousand junior and mid-level civil servants will see their salaries increase by between five to 15 per cent this month.
The Straits Times reported that two groups will be getting pay raises. This includes graduate officers, whose salaries range from $3,000 and $10,000 and are in the lower and middle rungs of the management executive scheme. They are typically involved in policy development and implementation, corporate services and operations.
The second group comprises non-graduate officers, whose pay starts from $1,600, and who are in the lower and middle rungs of the management support scheme.
The Public Service Division (PSD) has confirmed the salary increases to The Straits Times.
In a statement, Mr Han Neng Hsiu, a senior director in the PSD said: 'PSD has selectively made salary adjustments for some generic schemes of service in February 2012 to close the gaps with the market and ensure that salaries remain competitive.'
The last pay rise was announced in 2007, said the PSD.
Senior officers who are above the MX9 grade, or those whose current pay is $11,000 or above, will not receive an increase in salary.
Those who belong to the MX10 grade - who typically hold deputy director positions with salaries between $6,000 to $10,000 - will receive a 5 per cent pay rise, while officers in the MX11 and 12 grades will get a 10 per cent increase.
Corporate support executives will not get a pay raise, as their salaries were found to be competitive after a recent salary review.
