The upcoming live-action film adaptation of popular Japanese video game series "Street Fighter" will feature an alumnus of Singapore's art institute Lasalle College of the Arts.

Canadian actress Callina Liang, 25, will star in the leading female role of Chun-Li, a character who made her debut in the second instalment of the game.

As a martial artist and Interpol officer, Chun-Li is known for her exceptionally strong physique and fighting skills that matches up to other male fighters in the game.

She is commonly thought to be among the most iconic female playable characters in pop culture.

Lasalle alumnus

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Liang grew up in a host of cities, including Beijing, China, Sydney, Australia and Singapore, according to her management's website.

While here, she attended the Australian International School, where her results for the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Drama course topped the globe.

She later went on to study Performance at Lasalle.

According to Elle Canada, Liang had initially pursued an academic path towards medicine, but switched to acting after discovering her passion for it.

Her breakout role was in Steven Soderbergh's 2024 supernatural film Presence, where she starred opposite veteran actress Lucy Liu.

She is currently based in London.

She's also a martial artist

Like her character, Liang has had formal training in martial arts across multiple disciplines, including Wushu and Silat.

It was this factor that supposedly contributed to her casting for Chun-Li, MMA website Lowkickmma said, as she occasionally performs her own stunts for the film.

In Street Fighter, which will air in late 2026, she will star opposite American actor Noah Centineo in his role as Ken.
