Choa Chu Kang snatch theft suspect arrested

SINGAPORE: A suspect involved in a snatch theft has been arrested, said the Singapore Police Force in a news release on Friday (Sep 26).
Last Tuesday, a female victim was walking along Choa Chu Kang Drive at around 9.50pm when a man “came from behind” and snatched the victim’s mobile phone, police said. With the assistance of CCTV cameras and follow-up enquiries, officers from the Jurong Police Division managed to track down the identity of the suspect, they added.
According to the police, a 26-year-old was arrested at about 3pm on Thursday, in the vicinity of Dover Road. He will be charged in court on Saturday for the offences of using criminal force to commit theft.
Under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, police said the suspect is liable to a jail term of one to seven years and may be subjected to caning. - CNA/xk
