Even the chinese tv news and newspaper stopped using "Hua Ren Xin Nian" or "Nong Li Xin Nian", it has become "Chun Jie".
Re-union dinner has changed from "Tuan Yuan Fan" to "Nian Ye Fan".
Seems like we locals now even have to alter our culture to accommodate those foreign trash.

It's to follow and allow FTs to integrate with universally accepted lunar soon Moon's New Year !

Is supposed to be Lunar New Year in the first place. The Chinese phrase is "Nong Li Xin Nian". Hee sorry no Chinese cos using ipad.

It was during the mid-80's that the govt/stpb encouraged this politically-correct term for racial integration/harmony. HRH was just that, not Malay New Year nor Deepavalli (fest of lites) but to have the races visit each other hence LNY instead of CNY.

Now, same reason although I think the influx of Ft's may be a factor.

Come to think of it, I think it should be LNY instead of CNY, since I understand some non-Chinese observe this too, e.g. Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese etc.

It's a lunar calendar as opposed to the Gregorian solar calendar. Tracing back history, the Chinese indisputably invented it first. To their credit, I think it's as accurate as the Gregorian in calculating and tracking months and years. I understand that there's a Muslim calendar also lunar based, but with due respect, I see that it's not as accurate as the Ramadan month keeps shifting month to month from year to year.
