Chinese Netizens Still Suspicious in Li Tianyi Gang-Rape Case

The following is a development on the gang-rape case involving Li Tianyi (aka Li Guanfeng), the son of well-known military singer Li Shuangjiang. chinaSMACK readers will remember him when he first made headlines for a road rage assault incident in September 2011 where he and friends beat up a young couple. His father helped reached a settlement and he was sentenced to reeducation. After being released a year later in 2012, he changed his name but was arrested again months later in February 2013 on suspicion of being involved in a case of gang-rape. Last month, the lawyer representing Li Tianyi, Xue Zhenyuan, formally resigned from the case.

The identity of the one and only adult co-conspirator in the Li Tianyi case has been confirmed. This morning, an insider revealed that person to be a 23-year-old male, surnamed Wang, from Beijing Dongcheng district, and an office worker of a certain company.

At present, there have been many various rumors regarding the Li Tianyi case. Many people suspected that the identity of Li Tianyi’s accomplice had not been made public was because of family background [connections].

Afterward, the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau made a response. Police indicated that the rumors online regarding the other several criminal suspects’ “family backgrounds” are untrue.
