Manila, Feb. 16 (CNA) A Filipino businesswoman of Chinese descent was abducted Sunday by six gunmen in the southern island province of Sulu, local authorities said Monday.
The victim was identified as 58-year-old Hadja Dingkim Yap by Philippine news outlets.
A special force composed of local military and police personnel said the gunmen forced Yap to board a vehicle that drove to the municipality of Patikul.
Authorities suspect the abduction could be aimed at disrupting police efforts to crack down on terrorist organizations in Sulu.
The abduction came the same day that it surfaced a Taiwanese businessman went missing in the Philippines.
The man was last seen on Feb. 7.
