Chinese Embassy in Japan again advises Chinese nationals not to travel to Japan amid rising security risks

The Chinese Embassy in Japan on Saturday issued a statement and again advised Chinese citizens to temporarily avoid traveling to Japan due to increasing security risks across multiple prefectures, according to the WeChat account of the embassy.
In recent days, public security conditions in parts of Japan have worsened, with multiple violent incidents reported in areas including Fukuoka, Shizuoka and Aichi prefectures. These cases include attempted murders and indiscriminate attacks targeting the public, said the statement.
The statement noted that several Chinese nationals in Japan have reported being verbally abused and physically assaulted without provocation, sustaining injuries. On December 31, 2025, a vehicle-ramming incident occurred in Tokyo's Shinjuku district, in which two Chinese citizens were seriously injured and rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, according to the embassy.
Upon learning of the incidents, the Chinese Embassy in Japan immediately extended condolences to the injured Chinese nationals and their families and provided consular assistance. The embassy has also lodged representations with Japanese police, urging a swift investigation and calling on the authorities to effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens.
The embassy emphasized in the statement that safety is paramount when traveling abroad. As the new year arrived and the Spring Festival approaches, the Chinese Embassy in Japan once again advises Chinese citizens to avoid traveling to Japan in the near term. Chinese nationals currently in Japan are urged to remain vigilant, closely monitor local security conditions, enhance safety awareness, and strengthen personal protection.
In the event of targeted or discriminatory incidents, they are advised to preserve evidence, report to the police promptly, and contact the Chinese embassy or consulates in Japan for assistance, the statement added.
