Saudi Arabia open visa to China, my embassy reminds: women must wear robes when going out
2019-09-28 10:20

On September 27th, Saudi Arabia announced the opening of tourist visas for some countries. China is on the list of countries that open tourist visas.

On the evening of the 27th, Ambassador Chen Weiqing attended the Saudi Arabian National Tourism Visa Ceremony and was interviewed by Chinese and foreign media.

Chen Weiqing welcomed Saudi Arabia's inclusion of China in the list of open tourist visa countries. It is believed that Saudi Arabia's development of tourism will help achieve the "2030 vision" and economic diversification goals.

Chen Weiqing said that travel to Saudi Arabia must comply with local laws and regulations, cultural traditions and social customs. Personnel engaged in work, study, pilgrimage and other activities must apply for a visa that is consistent with the purpose of travel. It is recommended that you read the relevant regulations and travel reminders issued by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy and Consulate in Saudi Arabia.

In addition, the Chinese Embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a “Saudi Travel Reminder” on the official website on September 28 to remind Chinese tourists to pay attention to Saudi tourism, and to remind them to follow local religious customs, including: women usually wear robes when going out, but Headscarves are not mandatory; men are not allowed to wear chestless backs or sleeveless tops in public places, but knee-length shorts.

The full text of Reminder is as follows:

First, Saudi tourist visa considerations

(1) Tourist visas are only issued to adults over the age of 18, and minors must obtain the consent of the guardian.

(2) Tourist visas are only applicable to short-term sightseeing trips to Saudi Arabia. Foreign citizens who go to work in the areas of work, study, medical care, pilgrimage, etc., must apply for a visa that is consistent with the purpose of entry. (3) Staying during the validity period and stay period of the visa, and the overstay will be fined.

Second, entry instructions

(1) Saudi Arabia is a traditional Islamic country that prohibits the import or carrying of non-halal food such as pork and alcohol. Other contraband items include unauthorised news publications, audiovisual products containing exposed and pornographic content (such as CD-ROMs, Mobile hard drives, etc.) and prints, weapons, fireworks, electronic cigarettes, watches, pens, glasses, airplanes, etc. that contain tampering devices. For more information, visit the Saudi Customs website at https://www.customs.gov.sa/ar/general/Prohibited-goods.

(2) Inbound Saudi Arabia carries more than 60,000 riyals (or equivalent financial instruments, foreign currency), goods worth more than 3,000 rials (including gifts, personal use), more than 200 cigarettes or 500 grams of tobacco. Products, as well as drones, medicines and other restricted items approved by the relevant competent authorities, must be reported to the Saudi customs department.

(3) Saudi Arabia may be sentenced to death for carrying or selling drugs. If you need to bring a proprietary Chinese medicine or a larger dose of personal medication, it is recommended to provide a doctor's prescription.

(4) Persons whose passports are covered by an Israeli visa are required to change their passports, otherwise they will be prohibited from entering the country.

Third, customs taboo

(1) It is prohibited to engage in religious activities other than Islam in public places.

(2) Women usually wear robes when they go out, but they are not obliged to wear headscarves; men should not wear chestless backs or sleeveless tops in public places, but knee-length shorts.

(3) Saudi Arabia strictly prohibits alcohol, and all restaurants and hotels do not supply alcoholic beverages. If the drinker is arrested, he will be sentenced to imprisonment, whipping and other fines. Those who purchase, privately brew or drunk driving will also be sentenced to severe punishment.

(4) During the holy month of Saudi Arabia, all Muslims except the elderly, children, patients, pregnant women and other special groups are prohibited from drinking water, eating, smoking, etc. during the sunrise to sunset. Non-Muslims in the country are not allowed to be in public places or Muslims during the fasting period. Drinking, eating and smoking should not provide food and beverages that can be consumed on site, otherwise you may face penalties such as repatriation.

Fourth, visit the tour tips

(1) Saudi law does not allow non-Muslims to enter Mecca and Medina, and offenders will be arrested, prosecuted and repatriated.

(2) The Saudi people pray five times a day, ten minutes to half an hour. During the prayer period, shopping malls, restaurants, cafes and other places of consumption are temporarily closed.

(3) Public places such as Saudi Arabian museums, parks, and zoos usually set different opening hours for different objects such as families, women, and single men. It is recommended to prepare in advance of the tour.

(4) Photographing in public places. Where it is forbidden to take pictures, such as military security sites, diplomatic areas, etc., there are generally signs, please strictly observe. You cannot take pictures of people, especially women, without your permission.
