When I was young, I aspired to be a policeman when I grew up.
Not uniform fetish but because I felt that I could be righteous. Then as I got older, I became disillusioned with police force.
Years ago, when I first stepped into police station to file a police report, the police officer spent more time trying to coax me not to report, than to understand my case, so there will be less for his office to follow-up Even three years ago when I reported cybercrimes to police online, the Investigation officer called me to tell me that "they had no jurisdiction" despite that the syndicate was targeting local SMEs. Eventually they started to act when DBS and OCBC customers got conned. Even when I reported a break-in for a neighbour's flat, I saw for myself the officers' indifferent attitudes. Enough said, a friend left the service after realizing that he overworked because he took his job seriously.
I guess being a police is just another job, whether you have passion or not is not important, because eventually you got to adapt to the corporate culture or quit like my friend after burnout. Many Police Officers whom I came across, probably became disillusioned themselves. In the struggle for promotion, the high-ranked put important matters aside to mingle with the leadership. Then, I also realized that the rich will not get speeding tickets because the appointed trusted traffic officer will excuse them; so car number plates are important indeed.
Likewise before I was enlisted, I told that I would definitely to be an officer in army. hahaa, then I got enlisted, I saw for myself how hypocritical and nua the regulars are.
