Two roommates in a college dormitory in Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China's Sichuan province, got into a physical confrontation with each other on Nov 17. One of them has been left with deep cuts that will leave ugly scars after being assaulted by an, as yet, unknown weapon, reports Sichuan-based West China Metropolis Daily.

The two students were sophomores at a vocational college in central Chengdu's Longquanyi District, and the confrontation allegedly broke out over one of the students leaving the light on after 11 pm. In the midst of the argument one of them took an unknown sharp instrument and attacked the other.

"I couldn't see what it (the instrument) was as it was too dark, but I felt a coolness in my chest which later felt painful. And then I squatted on the floor with my hand covering my chest and lost consciousness," said the injured party. She was found to be bleeding in several places and was sent to hospital.

Cuts were found on the injured roommate's cheeks, chest, shoulders, and thighs. She was no longer in critical situation after a three-hour operation. However, there were three cuts on her face that doctors say will never completely heal.

The room where the incident happened is temporarily closed. The school will arrange counseling for the other 4 roommates who live in the same room.
