Four people died, three heavily injured and two in critical conditions after a passenger bus overturned
and caused a pileup of three other vehicles Thursday on the highway from Chongqing to Kunming in Yunnan
province, southwest China.
The accident happened at around 14:00 on the G85 highway near Yongchuan district in Chongqing.
Two local hospitals immediately sent ambulances to the scene to rescue those injured in the accident.
Local transport department closed the Yongchuan section of the highway right after the accident and sent for
tow trucks and cranes to clean up the scene.
By 16:30, traffic had been resumed.
According to witnesses, the Chongqing passenger bus bound for Chengdu, capital of Sichuan, suddenly
overturned due to the slippery slope after rain and a flat tire.
The bus crashed onto the guard railing in the middle of the highway, broke it and rushed onto the road on
the other side of the guard railing.
The truck driver slammed the brakes when he saw the accident, leading to a chain collision of the truck and
two other vehicles.
The accident is still under investigation.
