The Online Citizen (TOC) originally planned party, themed ‘TOC Cassetted – Not a Political Party’ which was open to members of the public is now closed and by-invitation only, according to a statement on its site.
TOC, Singapore’s first ever blog to be gazetted as a political organisation had originally wanted to celebrate this “special occasion” by inviting members of the public to the event ( filled with fun and games and members of the public will be invited to make public donations ) but that was stopped by the police who wanted TOC to apply for at least 3 licenses before it can be allowed to hold the event.
Knowing that the licenses will NEVER be granted (only a moron will believe it will be granted), TOC has now “closed” the public invitation and changed it into a by-invitation only event, effectively negating the need to apply for any licenses, it believes.
The 3 licenses which TOC was originally required to apply for were Public Entertainment License (for the live band), the house to house and street collections license (for the fund raising), and a notification to conduct a lucky draw under the house gaming rules (lucky draw).
The venue and time for the party remains the same:
Date: 29th January 2011
Time: 1930 hours to 2230 hours
Venue: Post Museum 107+109 Rowell Road
TOC says that there will be a limit if 150 invited guests and those who would like to be invited should email [email protected].
Two of Temasek Review’s (TR) editors who are in town for the chinese holiday had originally wanted to attend the open party but decided against it for fear that the authorities might gate-crash the party, which they will definitely do regardless of whether TR editors are there or not.
